Charchan is located in the eastern fringe of the Tarim Basin,boundary of Charckilik tounty and Niya county in the East and West; And neighbors Argin mountain and Tibet in the South, streching into the depths of the Taklamakan desert in the North, 1500 kilometers from Urumqi city. It coveres an area of 140000 squre kiliometers ,has under its administrations two towns and 11countres , with the population of 60000,second biggest county in china.
About 5 thousand years ago ,people there began the life of roving around the northern Kunlun Mountain and gathering jade,Charchan is not only a source of Jade Road,but also a southern historical spot of the Silk Road Molegieriver mural paintings, Zagunluk ancient tombs and Tahlakmanor provide an evidence for Chiemo’s lon g history. There is no train going derecitely to Charchan, but you may come korla by tain then take bus to chrchan if you want .

The bus between Urumqi and chachan goes throuthNO.315 highway and cenrtal tarim highway lie acvoss the county,On the way ,you will get some idea of the hardships ofthe ancient Silk Road ,and also investigate the natuval Scenesof desert callled “The Sea of Death “and a forest oil derrilcscalled “The Sea of hope”. The trip takes about 16 hours and costs RMB200. . Some people hire jeeps and drivers and cover the distance this way.

Chrchan has a temperate continental climate, Wich is cold in winter and hot in summer.the temperature disparity between day and nights is great with many hours of sunshine,samll amounts of rainfall and a high evaporation rate.it is dusty with many sandstorm days in the spring and witer. The average temperature for the year is 11.8 degree C, the average temperature of the coolest month of January is -6 degree C, and in the hottest month, July, the average temperature is 27 degree C. The average rainfall here is only 28.9 to 47.1mm, but the evaporation capacity amounts to 2588mm, and on average there are 226 days without frost a year here.
